Our mission is to preserve the lively and important history of Scottish Country Dancing through practice, performance and camaraderie. The Bellingham Scottish Country Dancers are a diverse group of people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities who enjoy dancing, music and building lasting friendships.

Q: What is Scottish Country Dancing?

CLASSES

Q: How do I register for classes?

A: There is no need to register for classes in advance. All you need to do is show up and have a great time!

Q: What should I wear to club classes?

A: Please come to class wearing soft soled shoes without heels, and clothing that is easy to move around in and that you are comfortable in.

Q: Can I bring a friend with me to classes and events?

A: Absolutely! The more the merrier.

Q: Who is eligible to become a member of the Bellingham Scottish Country Dancing club?

A: Our club is open to everyone, regardless of age and ability. We have plenty of first-time Scottish Country Dancers join our club every year and offer a relaxed and welcome environment. Rest assured that you will never feel uncomfortable or out of place if you are new to Scottish Country Dancing and joining us for the first time. Information on becoming a member of BSCD can be found on our Membership page.

Q: How much does it cost to be a member of the club?

A: Membership is based on the dance year (September – May).  $140 for the full dance year; $70 for a half- year and $5 drop-in fee per class.

If you prefer, you can simply come and enjoy the classes and events, and pay as you go, without becoming a member of BSCD.  Pricing for classes and events can be found on our Classes page.

Q: Where can I purchase dance instruction booklets?

A: The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society sells dance instruction booklets via the following website: http://www.rscds.org/shop.html. The Bellingham Scottish Country Dancing Club also provides copies of instructions for certain dances to its members and class participants. Check out our Links page for more options.

The club shares in the rich history of Scottish Country Dancing and has achieved important milestones in its own right.

Milestones in the History of BSCD:
1983 – Formation of the Bellingham Scottish Country Dancers.
1998 – BSCD became a non-profit corporation with the State of Washington
2003 – Creation of the Memorial Scholarship Fund
2010 – BSCD became a non-profit corporation with the IRS, attaining 501(c)3 status allowing donors to take a tax deduction on all contributions to BSCD.
